John was heading to Prague for work and we decided to tag along. I know...life stinks, haha. Kyle Wade, who works for Trax and who is also a family friend was on the trip for work too. Bless him, he will be a great Dad one day. The kids loved being with him.
Prague was actually my first European city I ever visited. I went with my Mom right after University. It is still one of the most beautiful Cities in the World. Stalin loved Prague so much it is one of the only cities that was not bombed during the Wars. It has so much character.
Town Square
Kyle told us that in the early 1990's the Council of Prague had the people from Disney come and light up for all the tourists.
It still rings on the hour and people stand to take videos and photos.
Wenceslas Square
Our hotel was on this street.
Outside the Estates Theater, Where in 1787, Mozart premiered his opera Don Giovanni. The sculpture represents the opera's character ll Commendatore, who appears as a ghost. It was created by Czech-born Anna Chromy and installed in 2000.
We stumbled upon a tour group:) and I overheard that this was a mansion back in the day.
Beautiful towers throughout
Every time I would look in a different direction you would see beauty.
Jewish Synogague
Jewish Cemetery
We again stumbled upon a tour group and the lady told us that there are over 14 layers of people. The city council said they couldn't bury people in the city boundaries anymore. So the Jews decided to just keep adding layers, but they would bring the headstones to the top. It was in use from 15th century to 1787.
Prague Castle
John and Kyle make fun of me but I really want a selfie stick
Cathedral in the Castle grounds
Changing of the guard
We just so happen to find this pretty cove and saw swans.
Food
What is a blog without the food! Before we went we watched Anthony Bourdains show on Prague. Our first night John took us to a place that he went during a previous trip... it was delicious. I thought that we went to the restaurant that Anthony highlighted on the show, because it said Restaurace. Little did I know that is what they call restaurants, hehe.
Have to get the sausage!
Czech goulash is different than Hungarian, both good but different. Czech is more meat and stew than a soup.
Czechs are known for their Honey Cake, being a sweet person I had to try it. OMG I loved it!!! I am definitely going to try and make it.
In the Squares they have food stands. If you were to go to the Christmas markets they would have hundreds.
I don't know when the Czech came up with this but I am thankful. It is a spiralling cinnamon roll. Its not guey but takes great.
I had to buy this to make it at home!
This is what they call a Butcher
Shopping
I told the kids this year we are going to try and only buy toys when we go on Holiday and they have to be toys made in the Country we are in. At home, 90% of the time Ava just wants to play teacher, so all these little toys she wants in Glasgow are not happening this year. John's brother Chris and sister in law Maggie are the best, I joke that they are perfect parents but they are really great. The kids don't get toys unless it is on their birthday or Christmas, so when something happens that is special they go for yogurt. My goal this year is to do that. I might gain a few Pounds!
John Luke got a Czech bus, he still loves it
Ava picked out a magnetic wooden puppet show.
Our favorite store in Europe is C&A. They don't have it in the UK. Since the UK is on the Pound I try to save my shopping when we go on Holiday because I can get more for my money then.
Toy Store
Outdoor Market
There are Thai Massage places all over. Yes, I got a foot massage.
The trip was great fun.
